142 Determination Squadron Sponsoring Committee
The Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is the locally based element of the Air Cadet League of Canada – Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC). The SSC’s primary responsibility is to manage and control all aspects of the Squadrons budgeting, finances, and fundraising activities. Together with the Squadron’s Commanding Officer, the 142 SSC supports the delivery of the Air Cadet Program in our community, and takes pride in our ability to charge no registration fee.
The Air Cadet Program is a partnership between the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Air Cadet League of Canada. The 2005 Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations outlines the responsibilities of each partner. In general, the DND is responsible to conduct the training program, supervise all cadet activities, and oversee and direct administrative management of each squadron. The Air Cadet League of Canada is responsible for screening Civilian Volunteers, fundraising, finding quarters for the squadron, and financial management. At the squadron level, the partnership is embodied by the relationship of the SSC Chairperson and the Commanding Officer.
The Fiscal Year of the SSC is from September 1st – August 31st. The training year starts with planning meetings in the summer to approve the Squadron’s budget. Aside from monthly meetings, the busiest periods for the SSC are the lead-up to our Tagging fundraisers, and preparations for the Squadron’s special parades such as Mess Dinners and the Annual Ceremonial Review.
